A native of Rhode Island, she is no stranger to the sea.They are both members of Blackbeards Crew of Hampton Virginia, traveling the East coast from Philadelphia, to Charleston, re-enacting Colonial life during the Golden Age of Piracy. She tells the story of Meg Kershaw Cormac, a young girl traveling to England with her mum. Their ship is attacked by pirates and her mum, Rose Kershaw is killed. Young Meg is left alone in the hands of these dastardly rouges and forced into servitude. The Captain demands she work in the galley with the Old Butcher. It is here, that she learns to bake rum cakes. Hatchetmeg is the persona used by Susan during her re-enacting, a name given to young Meg by Tom Jackson, the gentle pirate who discovered her hiding amongst the rum barrels in the hold whilst the ship was under siegeSusan has spent much of her life traveling throughout, the United States, Europe, Asia, Mexico, and the Caribbean. She spent a couple of years living in Grand Cayman, British West Indies. It was here, for the very first time, that she sampled this sinfully, delectable dessert, Rum Cake. Coming from a culinary background, she decided to experiment in making her own rum cakes. Here she presents her creation of forty-two gourmet rum cakes, along with a few of her favorite pirate yarns for you to read.
